Ad Insertion Platform (AIP) and Castlabs at NAB 2026: Making Next-Generation Ad Formats Individually Addressable in Streaming

Ad Insertion Platform (AIP) and Castlabs are at NAB 2026 to show what it takes to deliver them reliably.
In late 2025, IAB Tech Lab released a formal set of standards for advanced streaming ad formats - the first significant update to ad format guidelines in several years. The move reflects a growing consensus: that the next wave of streaming monetization will not only be built on pre-roll and mid-roll, but on formats that integrate more naturally and creatively into the viewing experience. Castlabs was among the contributors to the IAB task force that shaped those standards, alongside major industry players including Disney, Google, and NBCUniversal.

Beyond non-linear formats, traditional monetisation through pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll also demands increasingly complex business and compliance-based rules to serve the right ad pod to each individual viewer. The joint demo focuses on AdBlendr, AIP’s Server-Guided Ad Insertion (SGAI) product, operating in direct coordination with PRESTOplay, Castlabs’ cross-platform video player. When PRESTOplay calls for an ad break, AdBlendr acts as the intelligent routing layer between the player and the ad ecosystem - communicating in real time with one or multiple ad servers, assembling the right ad pod and applying business rules for routing, sequencing, inventory splits, and promotional priorities before returning the optimised result to the player. Publishers retain full control over how their inventory is managed and monetised.
It is this seamless coordination between ad routing, complex business rules and playback that unlocks the next generation of ad formats - individually addressed, precisely composed, and built to scale. AIP and Castlabs’ joint demo at NAB 2026 will showcase Squeezeback formats - including L-Shape and Double Box variants - alongside Overlays and Pause ads, each delivered on a per-viewer basis without interrupting playback.
